A Study on the Relationship between Oral Health Behavior, Oral Health Condition, and Oral Health Management Needs for the Home Care Beneficiaries of Long-term Care Insurance

Abstract

|
Objective: This study purposed to analyze the relationships between the oral health behavior, oral health condition and oral health management needs after controlling the socioeconomic factors for the home carebeneficiaries of long-term care insurance.
Methods: The data was gathered from 180 questionnaires collected from the beneficiaries of long-term care insurance program in Korea who registered in the elderly day care center of Wonju, Gangwondo and Hwaseong, Gyeonggido between 2013. 9. 25 and 2013. 10. 25. SPSS v21.0 was used for the descriptive analysis, factorial analysis and reliability analysis. Path analysis was applied with AMOS v19.0.
Results: The results of path analysis were as following: (1) oral health behavior did not have significant effects on the oral health condition, (2) oral health condition had significant effects on the needs for oral health management, (3) oral health behavior had significant effects on the needs for oral health management, (4) the effects of age on oral health behavior, oral health condition and oral health management needs were differed depending on the age groups.
Conclusion: The research results reveal that it is necessary for an oral health care giver to train the home care service beneficiaries to have desirable oral health behavior on the long-term basis. Improving oral health condition by understanding their oral health behavior, condition and needs will also improve their overall health condition.
